Jochen Cerny
Germany
Jochen,
a native of Düsseldorf, Germany, is a distinguished photographic artist whose creative journey has been shaped by a rich lineage of artistic influence. The convergence of his grandmother’s profound appreciation for photography, marked by an extraordinary attention to detail in black and white art, and his father’s collaborative ventures with top industry photographers as a marketing consultant, laid the foundation for Jochen’s innate artistic skills.
Although Jochen initially pursued academic studies and embarked on a career as an international investment banker, his innate passion for photographic art eventually resurfaced. A pivotal reunion with childhood friend and renowned photographer Andreas Gursky served as a catalyst, confirming Jochen’s latent talent and inspiring him to professionalize his photographic pursuits.
Today, Jochen Cerny’s distinctive style is defined by his proprietary CMPB technique—an innovative blend of various post-production methods that uniquely manipulates the colors of the subject without altering its essence. Venturing into digital photo painting, his newer works blur the boundaries between photography and abstract painting, as exposure time, camera movement, and aperture changes converge to create visually captivating compositions.
Eschewing traditional narrative storytelling, Jochen’s images aim to infuse vibrancy into the subjects themselves. Influenced by the renowned “Düsseldorfer Schule,” his work has garnered acclaim, earning multiple prestigious awards in prominent photo challenges such as Trierenberg Circuit, Monochrome Awards, Fotoforum Magazine, and Viewbug to name a few.
Renowned galleries in various locations in Germany, London, Zurich, Paris, Miami, Hong Kong and New York have showcased his work, receiving enthusiastic appreciation from international art collectors and photography enthusiasts.
In 2019, Jochen Cerny assumed the role of curator for the Asian Art Association in Singapore, further solidifying his position as a distinguished figure in the global art community.
